Cupru Min S.A. is the only producer in Romania whose main concern is the extraction of copper ore and the capitalization of the copper concentrate and of precious metals.

In 2018, the company recorded a copper concentrate production of 39.017,119 tons.

On 31st December 2018, Cupru Min S.A Abrud had 572 employees.

The name Abrud has a Dacian origin, coming from “Abruttus”, which comes, as well, from a Dacian phrase “abrudion”, meaning “gold”.  In the Roman Era “Abrud” was called “Auraria Daciae”, “Auraria Maior” and “Alburnus Minor”.

Even in the ancient times, Abrud had its fame. When Decebal, the Dacians’ king, reigned, Abrud was the center of mining operations in Dacia. In 106, after the Romans conquered Dacia, emperor Trajan set a Roman legion in Abrud, calling it “Auraria Daciae”, and eventually, “Auraria Maior” and he organized the so-called “Collegium Aurariorum”, under the leadership of a mines chief, called “magister”.

One of the greatest responsibilities a company that works in a mining area has, is the protection of the environment. The Environment Management system contains the following elements:

The treatment of the water gathered in Aries so that they get to normal parameters through modern methods;

The development of the employees and the increase of the level of awareness regarding the environment protection;

The neutralization of acid water through lime dosage, in the preparation plant;

The intake of the tailings dumps’ water to assure the stability of the dumps.

The stability and the permanent evacuation of tailings dumps’ water.
